Celine - Pubic lip surgery

Great!

For years I had been sitting with the idea of undergoing this surgery. Finally in a spontaneous moment, I booked a consultation and could not have wished for a better experience. Doc Amra is incredibly knowledgeable, patient and friendly. During the surgery, she and the assistant Marije put me at ease, gave love advice and helped tremendously. Seeing the final result made me cry: what a relief and was incredibly well done. Now in my recovery period I hardly experience any discomfort- the aftercare instructions were clear. Doc. Amra thank you! Because of you, my life will never be the same again and I can finally see myself in a new image.

How does this treatment work?

1.

Consultation with doctor

1.

Consultation with doctor

In a consultation with our female surgeon, you will get answers to whether your vagina deviates from the norm and whether you are suitable for a labia correction. You must be at least 18 years old, as your labia are then mature. There is no such thing as a standard vagina. You are eligible for labia correction if you inner labia protrude too far and/or if you experience symptoms of bulging labia.

During the no-obligation consultation, our specialist will ask about your symptoms and wishes. Your labia will be examined, after which the treatment options will be discussed. You will receive clear information and explanations about the treatment, aftercare, risks, costs and the expected end result. Photographs will be taken beforehand, which can later be compared with the final result.

Treatment

2.

Treatment

A labia correction is a common treatment at Skin + Surgery Clinics, where excess skin tissue is cut away under local anaesthetic. The pendulous part of the drooping labia are thus removed. Should you be very nervous, we can prescribe a sedative tablet. It is a minor procedure with permanent natural results. The outpatient treatment takes about 1 hour and is always performed by an experienced and highly qualified female surgeon. You may return home after the treatment and after a short recovery time.

No obvious scars remain after the labia correction. The inner and outer labia are balanced after the procedure and they form a natural whole. The inner labia no longer bulge. They may, however, retain a slightly irregular, asymmetrical appearance. This is normal. You will recover from the surgery within 2 weeks and be able to resume your daily activities. The labia almost always retain their natural sensitivity. The final result can be seen after 6 to 9 weeks.

3.

Aftercare

3.

Aftercare

The surgery may be accompanied by some post-operative pain and swelling in the pubic area. You can take a painkiller against the pain. Swelling should be controlled immediately after the procedure and for several days with a bag of frozen peas or cold compress. Keep the wound clean by rinsing it at least twice a day while showering. You may rub the wound and surrounding area with a cream after this.

The wound is stitched with soluble sutures after the labia correction and is not bandaged. It is therefore wise to wear a panty liner or sanitary towel against any loss of blood. In the first four to six weeks after the procedure, do not engage in heavy physical activity, such as physical work, intense sports or heavy lifting. During the recovery period, wait 4-6 weeks before having sex.

Below you will see pictures of how recovery may go in the first 2 weeks. Know that everyone is unique and it may be slightly different for you. Therefore, be well informed during a personal consultation.

4.

Risks

4.

Risks

The risk of complications after a labia correction for drooping labia is virtually nil. Slight post-operative bleeding can sometimes occur or the wound can become infected and inflamed. Smoking results in poorer wound healing and increases the risk of inflammation. The experienced specialists at Skin + Surgery work using state-of-the-art treatment techniques and the best instruments to ensure safe and result-oriented treatment.

Aftercare after labia reduction

Significant swelling may occur after the labia correction, because of this it is important to start cooling immediately after the procedure. A bag of frozen peas is usually used for this purpose. We recommend continuing to cool the swelling regularly for several days. It is also important to keep the wound clean. It should therefore be rinsed at least twice a day and after every visit to the toilet.

After the procedure, the wound is not bandaged. However, it is wise to use sanitary pads to ensure that any blood loss is collected.

In the first four to six weeks after the labia correction, we advise against any additional exertion. You can think of heavy physical work, heavy lifting, cycling and sports. Sex is also not recommended during the recovery period.

Will a labia reduction be reimbursed?

A labia correction is a procedure that is generally not reimbursed. Only when the operation is medically necessary, some health insurers reimburse for a correction of the labia in rare cases. When considering a labia correction, it is wise to check beforehand whether your (supplementary) health insurance covers this procedure and, if so, under what conditions.

Is labia reduction safe?

Although a labia correction is a relatively simple procedure, there are risks with any surgery. Post-operative bleeding may occur. Also, the wound may become infected and/or inflamed. In some cases, scars may be or remain numb after healing.

Labia are naturally asymmetrical. Although efforts are made to achieve as symmetrical a result as possible, a completely symmetrical result after surgery cannot be guaranteed.

For whom is labia reduction not suitable?

No two women are the same. No two vaginas are the same. Do you feel that your vagina deviates from the norm, without suffering from psychological or physical symptoms as a result? Then it is important to realise that there is no such thing as the standard vagina or the average vagina. In that case, it is wise to ask yourself whether the result of such an operation really contributes to your sense of well-being.

When the labia are not yet mature, a labia correction is not possible (yet). The operation can be performed at our premises if you are over 18 years old.

Who is labia reduction suitable for?

When your inner labia are so large that they protrude further than the outer labia, you may experience discomfort. The complaints you experience as a result can be both physical and psychological. Physical complaints can manifest in the form of pain during activities like etching, horse riding and other sports. Wearing tight clothes can also be annoying or even painful. Sometimes, large labia also cause pain during intercourse. Psychological complaints can manifest in the form of embarrassment, for instance. If you suffer from one or more of these complaints, a labia correction may be a solution.

What exactly is labia reduction?

In a labia correction (labia correction), the inner labia are reduced in size. This can be done for cosmetic or medical reasons. The inner labia (labia minora) are surgically reduced in size so that they fall within the outer labia (labia majora) and are thus better protected.
