Fillers: everything you need to know

You've probably already noticed. The use of fillers has been accepted by the general public and has increased tremendously in recent years. Previously, fillers were used for filling wrinkles and restoring volume loss due to ageing. Now, fillers are increasingly used to reshape your cheekbone, chin, lips or nose or to correct asymmetry in the face. All the more, we at Skin + Surgery Clinics think it's important for you to be up to date with the latest developments. That is why today we will tell you all the ins and outs about fillers.

Did you know?

  • There are more than 160 filler products on the market worldwide. Skin + Surgery Clinics uses only A brands of fillers such as Restylane or Belotero. For you only the best.
  • Fillers can also be used for your body, for example to rejuvenate your hands or treat your stretch marks after pregnancy.
  • Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme Hyalase. Should you not like your filler treatment or find your lips a little too full, we can expertly remove the filler.
  • Doctor Kim de Weijer and Doctor Lianne Wong are both certified cosmetic doctor KNMG and each have more than 10 years of experience in botulinum toxin and filler treatments.
  • Our doctor Thanya Tha-In together with her specialist colleagues have written the "NVCG field standard for filler treatments". This contains the standard guidelines that doctors must meet in order to perform filler treatment and what doctors must do in case of complications.

Which filler do you need?

A personalised approach is very important in filler treatment. It is important that our doctors understand what your needs are. Important questions at a consultation include: how long the filler will last, how much filler is needed, what skin type you have and what the expected result is after a filler treatment.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is one of the most popular ingredients used in fillers. It is a natural substance found in the body, and high concentrations can be found in soft, connective tissue and the fluid around the eyes. Lower concentrations can also be found in some cartilage, joint fluids, and skin tissue. Hyaluronic acid filler is ideal for cheeks, marionette lines, nasolabial fold, smoker's lines, and even acne scars.

For deeper lines and wrinkles, consider a calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) filler (Radiesse). CaHA is a mineral-like substance that occurs naturally in human bones. It is often used if you want to reshape or accentuate your bone structures. CaHA gives a natural result that lasts for 12 to 18 months. This filler should not be used for under eyes, lips or other areas of thin skin due to possible lumps, bumps and lumps from the thickness of the product.

How is the treatment going?

First, your doctor will look at your facial contours and discuss the areas you want to target. Your photos will be taken and injection points will be marked on your face.

After cleaning the injection site, the injections are administered, followed by massaging and evaluating the results. Additional filler can be added if needed. Treatment is usually quick and happens in about 15 minutes.

How is the recovery?

Recovery from skin filler injections is a fairly straightforward process. You will most likely experience swelling and bruising. Avoid strenuous activities like sports or sauna visits for 24-48 hours.

When filler treatment is done by an experienced doctor, fillers are an incredibly safe way to improve facial contours.
