Consultation with doctor

1.

Consultation with doctor

Eyelid surgery is always preceded by a consultation with one of our qualified and experienced doctors. You can easily book an appointment for a free consultation via our website. During the personal interview with our surgical doctor, you can indicate what bothers you, what eye complaints you have and what you would like to see changed. The consultation takes place in a relaxed setting so that you feel completely at ease. You will have the conversation with the doctor treating you.

You may during the free consultation ask all your questions about treatment, aftercare, risks and costs. You will get expert and honest answers. Your eligibility for an eyelid correction will be examined. You will receive clear explanations about the entire treatment process and the expected result. During this first consultation, photos are taken of you before treatment. At a later stage, these are compared with the photos taken after the surgery. You can thus see the positive effect of an eyelid correction.

2.

Treatment

2.

Treatment

Eyelid surgery requires no recording at our clinic. It is an outpatient treatment and relatively simple procedure performed under local anaesthetic. If you are very nervous, sedative medication can be prescribed. Our patients are allowed to go home after the procedure and after a short rest period. Eyelid correction is performed for drooping eyelids. The treatment area is first marked off. After a minute incision, the excess skin and fatty tissue is removed. The scar of the suture falls precisely into the natural skin fold. This is virtually invisible later.

A lower eyelid correction is performed if you suffer from bags under your eyes. Our specialist makes a small incision under the lash line, after which the excess skin and fatty tissue under the eyes is removed. The skin is then pulled together and sutured. The scar under your eyelashes is hardly visible, if at all. An eyelid correction is a painless treatment that takes about 1 hour. You should not drive yourself after the treatment because of the swelling around the eyes and the resulting reduced vision. An eyelid correction has long-term results. You will - with good skin care and a healthy lifestyle - enjoy the treatment for 10 to 15 years.

3.

Aftercare

3.

Aftercare

You are guaranteed at Skin + Surgery excellent aftercare. We follow an aftercare protocol to minimise the risks and chances of complications. Swelling and redness after eyelid surgery can be effectively controlled with cooling goggles. You place a gauze pad between your eyes and the cooling goggles. It helps to sleep with an extra pillow for the first few days so that your head is higher. In case of mild pain, a paracetamol can be taken. You are allowed to rinse your eyes with a gentle jet of water one day after the procedure. Afterwards, pat it dry without rubbing.

For the first week, avoid heavy physical exercise, lifting, bending, pressing and coughing. You should not cut the ends of the stitches yourself. This will be done after 7 to 9 days at our clinic. It is out of the question to smoke while the sutures are still in place. Otherwise, your blood vessels will constrict and you run an increased risk of impaired wound healing. You may use make-up again after the stitches have been removed and all scabs are gone. Do not expose the scars to sunlight or tanning bed radiation for the first three months. You will see our doctor for a check-up up to 6 weeks after the treatment.

4.

Risks

4.

Risks

Eyelid surgery for drooping eyelids, or droopy eyelids, do not involve any major risks or complications. These short-term and relatively simple intervention produces only some swelling, redness and bruising around the eyes. These symptoms disappear after a few days. In occasional cases, a post-operative haemorrhage, eye inflammation, numbness of the eyelid margin, uneven eyelids, cysts or scarring may occur. If in doubt, contact the specialists at Skin + Surgery. Our doctors are readily available.

What does eyelid surgery cost and why do prices differ?

The price of eyelid surgery depends on the type of eyelid surgery you choose. We are happy to explain the differences. What is the same with every eyelid correction, however, is that the pre- and after-care package is included.

Upper eyelid correction both sides - skin resection price: ā‚¬690
Excess skin is removed. The droop is gone.

Upper eyelid correction both sides - skin resection and muscle adjustment price: ā‚¬ 895
Excess skin is removed. The hanging part is gone. In addition, the excess muscle is also removed. This remedies the bulky effect.

Upper eyelid correction both sides - skin resection and muscle and fat pockets adjustment price: ā‚¬950
Excess skin is removed. The drooping part is removed. In addition, the underlying muscle is also removed. This remedies the 'thick' effect of the eyelids. During the consultation, it is established whether you have 'thick' eyes due to excess fat. Should this be the case, the fat pockets are also addressed so that you are not left with 'puffy' eyes.

Lower eyelid correction both sides - skin resection and muscle and fat pockets adjustment and lift price: ā‚¬1500
Excess skin and muscle are removed. In addition, the fat pockets under the eyes are adjusted to create a natural look. Finally, we lift the eye through a canthopexy. This is a minor surgical procedure that tightens the muscle under the eyes.

Lower eyelid correction both sides - skin resection and loosening arcus and fat repositioning price: ā‚¬ 1950
Excess skin and muscle are removed. The fat pockets under the eyes are adjusted to create a natural look. Then the eyes are lifted through a canthopexy. This is a minor surgical procedure that tightens the muscle under the eyes. Finally, the surgeon considers whether the excess fat can be used to correct any fat deficiency in other areas (fat repositioning).

Who is eyelid surgery suitable for?

Undergoing eyelid surgery can be an exciting step, have you been thinking about it for some time but unsure when it is the right time? If you look in the mirror and see a gloomy or tired face around the eyes, even when you are well rested, you may have already considered doing something about it. Eyelid surgery can help with this. Overhanging eyelids can also cause symptoms, such as limited vision and headaches due to extra exertion of the eye muscles. To determine whether you qualify for an upper eyelid correction and/or lower eyelid correction, or a combined procedure, a no-obligation consultation with our specialists is the best first step.

Cost of eyelid surgery

SkinSurgery Clinics is transparent and fair in its prices. We consider quality important, and therefore only work with experienced cosmetic doctors. Because everyone is unique, what can be corrected to the eyelids can vary from person to person. Sometimes it is only necessary to remove excess skin, fat pockets or muscle tissue. In our clinic, we consider two things important in this: long-term and natural results.

Upper eyelid surgery bilateral - skin resection

If there is only excess skin, eyelid surgery with skin resection will suffice. The underlying muscle tissue or fat pockets will not be corrected in this case.

Upper eyelid surgery both sides - skin resection and adjusting muscle

Often, in addition to excess skin, there is also sagging of the orbicularis oculi: the muscle used to close and open the eyelids. By removing a small strip, the result becomes more natural than if we were to remove only skin while there are fat pockets and sagging muscle.

Upper eyelid surgery both sides - skin resection, muscle and fat pockets removed

With somewhat thick eyelids, or puffy eyes, it is often necessary to remove some fat in addition to excess skin and muscle. This fat 'pushes' against the septum, muscle and skin, so to speak, and therefore partially causes the droopy eyelids. Therefore, to ensure long-term results, it is necessary to remove the fat as well in this indication.

How long does recovery take after eyelid surgery

Due to our years of experience in performing eyelid corrections, we work with a special pre- and aftercare protocol. This way, you are optimally prepared and recover without complications.

Usually, pain relief with paracetamol is sufficient after surgery. We advise you not to drive a car on the day of surgery and as long as your vision is impaired. After a week, you will visit us for a check-up to remove the stitches.

You should not use contact lenses or make-up for 2 weeks. We advise you not to smoke for 2 weeks after the procedure. Smoking increases the risk of complications. We advise you not to expose the scars to UV sunlight and/or the sunbed for 3 months after surgery.

When can I wear lenses and make-up again?

We recommend not wearing lenses or make-up for at least 2 weeks after your eyelid surgery. It is important to leave the treated area alone as much as possible so that it can recover properly and you can enjoy a radiant look faster. A week after your eyelid correction, you will come for a check-up and the stitches will be removed for our specialist.

Post-treatments and check-ups after eyelid surgery

7-9 days after your eyelid surgery, the stitches and plasters will be removed during your check-up appointment. 6-8 weeks after surgery, you will come for a check-up with one of our specialists.

Aftercare after eyelid surgery

Due to our many years of experience in performing eyelid corrections, we work with a special pre- and aftercare protocol. This way, you are optimally prepared and recover without complications.

Usually, pain relief with paracetamol is sufficient after surgery.
We advise you not to drive a car on the day of surgery and as long as your vision is obstructed.

You should not use contact lenses for 2 weeks. You can use make-up again after removing the sutures, when all scabs have disappeared.
We advise you not to smoke until the sutures are removed. Smoking increases the risk of complications. We advise you not to expose the scars to UV sunlight and/or tanning beds for 3 months after surgery.

What can you expect after eyelid surgery?

An eyelid correction can be a solution when you experience complaints such as drooping eyelids, heavy upper eyelids, a tired look, but also when you consider the treatment from cosmetic reasons. You recover quickly from an eyelid correction; it is a relatively minor procedure, performed under local anaesthetic. You can already see the result of an eyelid correction about 2 weeks after the treatment, although slight swelling may still be present. The scar will eventually fade and fall nicely into the skin fold and is therefore almost invisible. The scar needs 6-12 months to fully recover, so protect it well when you go out in the sun. You can return to work after a week.

What is the difference in price of upper eyelid surgery

At Skin + Surgery Clinics, we prioritize transparency and fairness in our pricing. We emphasize quality, collaborating exclusively with seasoned cosmetic doctors. Given that each individual is unique, the corrective approach to eyelids can differ from person to person. Sometimes, only surplus skin requires removal, while in other cases, excess fat or muscle tissue may also be involved. Within our clinic, two key principles guide our approach:Ā long-lasting and natural results.

Upper eyelid surgery bilateral - skin resection

If there is only excess skin, eyelid surgery with skin resection will suffice. The underlying muscle tissue or fat pockets will not be corrected in this case.

Upper eyelid surgery both sides - skin resection and adjusting muscle

Often, in addition to excess skin, there is sagging of theĀ orbicularis oculi: the muscle used in closing and opening the eyelids. By removing a small strip, the result becomes more natural than if we only removed skin while there is excess and sagging muscle.

Upper eyelid surgery both sides - skin resection, muscle and fat pockets removed

For somewhat thick eyelids, orĀ puffy eyes, it is often necessary to remove some fat in addition to excess skin and muscle. This fat 'pushes' against the septum, muscle and skin, so to speak, and therefore partially causes the drooping eyelids. Therefore, to ensure long-term results, it is necessary to remove the fat as well in this indication.

How does eyelid surgery work?

Performing an eyelid correction requires skilled work. There are different types of eyelid surgery, all with different intended results. To determine your eligibility for the procedure and which technique best suits your desired result, a preliminary examination is needed. During the preliminary examination, there is room to ask all your questions. Pictures are also taken for the medical record. With the preliminary examination, we ensure that you have a realistic expectation of the intended results.

Who is this correction suitable for?

Eyelid surgery is often a contemplation that spans a period of time, yet the timing of taking this step varies for each individual. If you peer into the mirror and notice a perpetually weary or fatigued appearance, even when adequately rested, you may have already entertained the idea of addressing it. Eyelid surgery presents a viable solution in such instances. However, it's imperative to recognize that eyelid correction extends beyond mere cosmetic enhancement. Drooping eyelids can provoke various issues, including potential vision impairment and headaches due to increased muscle strain to keep the eyes open. Irrespective of the underlying motivation for seeking eyelid surgery, determining your candidacy is paramount. The optimal approach entails scheduling a no-obligation consultation with our specialists.

What exactly is eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery entails the removal of surplus skin and fat from either the upper or lower eyelids, or both. From a cosmetic standpoint, this procedure can result in a rejuvenated and rested appearance. Alternatively, eyelid correction may also be undertaken for medical reasons, particularly when overhanging eyelids contribute to symptoms. Regardless of the motivation, the surgical procedure remains consistent in both scenarios.
