Facelift

A facelift is an outpatient treatment that does not require admission. You may return home after the procedure and after a short rest period. The only thing is that you are not yet allowed to drive a car yourself. In that case, take someone with you to our clinic or have someone pick you up by car after the treatment. Various facelift treatments are carried out under anaesthetic in our clinic: an S-lift or mini-lift, a more extensive MACS lift and an extensive neck facelift. Excess skin on the face and possibly the neck is removed. With a MACS-lift and neck facelift, the underlying binding and muscle tissue is also tightened and the sagging fat tissue is brought back to its original place.

The treatment time depends on the type of facelift. The S-lift takes about 1.5 hours. Only the skin of the cheek is lifted. The MACS lift takes about 2 hours, during which both the skin of the cheek and the underlying supporting tissue are lifted. Your jawline will become tighter and your nasal folds will become more prominent. The extended neck-facelift takes a little more time. This procedure gives you a clearer jaw and neck line and a tighter and more youthful face shape. The deep skin folds disappear. The first result is already visible after 1 to 2 weeks. The final, natural result is visible after a few months to a year. The result lasts a long time. Skin aging continues. A facelift can be repeated after 10 to 15 years.

In the few days after the facelift, your face is somewhat swollen and feels tight. In case of mild afterpain it is sufficient to take a paracetamol. The swelling and bruising will disappear within a few weeks. Take sufficient rest in the first week and sleep in the supine position on an extra pillow. This helps against the swelling, reduces the risk of bleeding and promotes the healing process. Avoid pressing, squeezing, bending or lifting in the first three weeks. Do not make heavy physical efforts in the first six weeks.

You will achieve the best results and the fastest healing with a healthy lifestyle. In any case, stop smoking until the stitches are removed, do not drink hot drinks to prevent facial congestion and do not chew solid food intensively. Otherwise the sutures in the face will come under pressure. Keep moving normally after the facelift, so that the blood circulation remains good and the wound heals quickly. After one to two weeks you will be present again and able to resume your daily social activities. Do not expose your facial skin to bright sunlight during the first three months and do not go under a tanning bed or to the sauna.

A facelift is a common surgical procedure at Skin + Surgery Clinics, with a very low risk of complications. In some cases an allergic reaction, haemorrhage or infection may occur.
