To achieve the best results, a combination of a face and neck lift is sometimes the best option. With this we achieve a tight jawline and a nice transition between chin and neck.
If a facelift and a neck lift are performed simultaneously, we speak of a face-neck lift. During the procedure, the skin and the underlying muscle and connective tissue are tightened and lifted. A classic facelift lift makes the nasal folds softer and gives more definition to the chin and jawline. If there is also sagging around the neck, it will remain visible with only a classic facelift. In that case, it is desirable to also lift the neck to achieve natural and optimal results.
A face-neck lift is performed under a nuisance and with local anesthetic. You are therefore very sleepy and relaxed and will not experience much of the procedure.
With a full face-neck lift, the excess skin will be removed from the neck and face and the underlying connective tissue layer and muscle layer will be pulled taut. This ensures that wrinkles and folds in the neck and face are less visible. The transition between the double chin and the neck becomes more visible and the jawline gets more definition. The skin of the cheeks and neck and the subcutaneous tissue layer are loosened and tightened again towards the ear.
Sometimes it happens that a limp muscle under the chin is tightened. This procedure is also called the platysmaplasty. Via the same incision in the skin, the surplus of fat tissue that is under the chin is removed.

A face-neck lift is an outpatient treatment , for which no hospitalization is required. You can go home after the procedure and after a short rest. You are just not allowed to drive yourself yet. In that case, take someone with you to our clinic or have someone pick you up by car after the treatment. A face-neck lift removes excess skin from the face and neck. The underlying connective and muscle tissue is also tightened and the prolapsed fat tissue returned to its original location.
The extensive neck facelift takes on average between 2 and 3 hours. This procedure gives you a clearer jaw and neckline and a tighter and more youthful face shape. The deep skin folds disappear. The first result is already visible after 1 to 2 weeks. The definitive, natural result shows itself after a few months to a year. The result lasts a long time. The skin aging will continue. A facelift can be repeated after 10 to 15 years.
We are happy to guide you through the entire treatment and healing process. We work with a specially developed pre and aftercare protocol , so that you are optimally prepared and enjoy your recovery. The few days after the facelift your face is a bit swollen and feels tight. For light after pain, taking a paracetamol is sufficient. The swelling and bruising will go away on its own within a few weeks. Take sufficient rest in the first week and sleep in the supine position on an extra pillow. This helps against swelling, reduces the risk of bleeding afterwards and promotes the healing process. For the first three weeks, avoid pressing, straining, bending, or lifting. Do not engage in vigorous physical activity in the first six weeks.
You achieve the best result and the fastest healing with a healthy lifestyle. In any case, stop smoking until the stitches are out, do not drink hot drinks to prevent facial congestion and do not chew solid food intensively. Otherwise, this will put pressure on the sutures in the face. After the facelift, keep moving normally, so that the blood circulation continues and the wound heals quickly. You will be presentable again after one to two weeks and able to resume your daily social activities. For the first three months, do not expose your facial skin to strong sunlight and do not use the tanning bed or the sauna. We recommend a number of connective tissue massages from 3 months after the treatment. This makes the skin, underlying tissues and scars supple and soft, and promotes recovery.
A face-neck lift is a common surgical procedure at Skin + Surgery Clinics, with a very low risk of complications. In some cases an allergic reaction, bleeding or infection may occur. A face-neck lift is by definition a surgical procedure. That means you will be operated on. It is a treatment that is performed when the skin on your face starts to sag with age. During the procedure, the skin is tightened and lifted. This gives your face, neck and jawline a youthful contour.
If a face-neck lift cannot produce the desired result, the surgeon will recommend another lift. At Skin + Surgery we specialize in different types of lifts and techniques.
The S-Lift </ a> : only the skin of the cheek is lifted, which is why the procedure is also called ‘minilift’ or ‘mini facelift’. This technique is suitable until a certain age and when the sagging has been limited to the top layer of the skin. If there is also slackening of the underlying tissue layers, the MACS-Lift or a facelift will be a better choice.
The MACS lift </ a> : not only the skin of the cheek is lifted, as with the S-Lift or mini lift, but the underlying supporting tissue is also included. This technique is suitable when there is more sagging, when there is a larger area to be lifted and is often applicable from a certain age. The neck is not included in a MACS lift.
Necklift with platysmaplasty </ b >: this lift is recommended if especially the neck (and underlying muscles) are relaxed. The skin of the face is not lifted with this treatment.
Face slimming </ b>: this unique treatment tackles chubby hamster cheeks and a stubborn double chin. In this case, there is no question of enormous slackening, but there is unwanted volume, which gives you, for example, a baby face .

A face-neck lift is suitable for people who want a natural change in their face and want to remedy the sagging that has developed over the years. The degree of sagging of the skin and underlying tissues determine whether a face-neck lift is necessary. The surgeon will always assess whether this can give you the desired result, or if another lift is a more suitable alternative. Age can range from 50 to 70 e years. However, after 70 years, we recommend no more operative lifts. The reason is that due to age, the underlay is often severely slack and therefore cannot be lifted properly.
There is a risk of complication with any surgical treatment. That is why it is important that you are aware of the procedure and the possible complications. There is a risk of an allergic reaction, bleeding or infection. The chance of this is very small. Our instruments are of the best quality. We work with very fine needles and fine diathermy, so as to minimize trauma to the tissue.
Specific complications with a facelift are nerve damage, asymmetry, hair loss, hypertrophic scarring and numbness of part of your face. The latter is usually not permanent.
- Take enough rest in the week after your treatment. Make sure someone can help you.
- Sleep in the supine position on 2 pillows. This reduces the risk of bleeding and swelling. It promotes healing.
- Do not push, push, lift or bend over during the first two weeks after treatment.
- We recommend that you do not smoke until the stitches are removed. Smoking increases the risk of complications.
- Avoid intensive chewing of solid foods. This puts pressure on the sutures in the face.
- Do not drink hot drinks, such as tea or coffee, to avoid facial congestion.
- Swelling and bruising get worse for the first three days and then slowly subside.
- It is wise to keep moving normally. This is good for circulation and wound healing.
- Do not engage in heavy and strenuous work or sports activities for the first six weeks.
- Schedule your social contacts. Stay at home for a week. The treated area will look blue, swollen, and bruised for the first week. The scars can also be red and swollen immediately after the treatment. This is sometimes a bit of a shock.
- One to two weeks after a facelift you are usually presentable again and you can resume your social activities.
- We advise you not to expose the scars to UV sunlight and / or the tanning bed for 3 months after surgery.
- After 3 months it is advisable to start with connective tissue massages. This relaxes the skin, underlying tissue and scars. The massages promote recovery and ensure longer retention of the result.
- Avoid emotional arousal. After a few weeks everything will be fine again.
