How do you feel?

All of a sudden I get it! Suddenly I get inspired during my yoga class about "feeling". And by that, I mean feeling in the broadest sense of the word. When someone asks us, "How are you today?". Then we often answer, "Yes, I feel good." Or "Well, I feel less". Unconsciously, we are constantly feeling. For example, when we want to buy a house, there are a number of important requirements that a house must meet, such as location, the price, number of rooms, garden or no garden etc. However, which house you end up buying is determined by the feeling you feel with the house. Does the house give you warmth, love and security you are looking for? Does it feel like "home"?

So everything in life is about feeling! It's as simple as that, isn't it? The problem lies in the fact, I think, that we like to feel only the finer things like happiness, love or appreciation. This is what we work very hard for in our own way. And try to avoid the less pleasant things like pain, sadness and rejection as much as possible. As Brene Brown so beautifully puts it: we build a shield around ourselves so as not to feel vulnerable. Unfortunately, this shield works both ways. If you don't know sadness, you can't feel happiness either. You stand on the sidelines, as it were, numb in your own shield. It is only when something serious happens, such as illness or death of a loved one, that we wake up, experience intense grief and then learn to appreciate life tremendously. I hear stories daily from clients who have gone through very difficult times and then appreciate the little things of life tremendously.

Well all nicely said, but how does it work in practice? Surely we don't all have to experience something serious before we can truly appreciate life. It starts, I think, with ourselves when we give ourselves the space to feel. The space to feel the light but also the dark. And to really feel these. After that, the trick is not to get stuck in the dark, but to pick up the thread and make beautiful moments.

So many great examples I see around me. Clients who have gone through difficult times and finally decide to give themselves something beautiful again. That's why my work is so fantastic and magical. I can make someone feel beautiful again. I can make someone happy again when they look in the mirror. For instance, there was a client who went on a date for the first time after her divorce. I naturally filled her lips with a hyaluronic acid filler and this gave her a boost of confidence. Or for instance, there was another client who is very happy that she has lost weight, but she is considered older due to the sagging of her face. After her facelift, she sends me her selfie with the widest smile.

And so the circle is complete. The inner is always intertwined with the outer, and vice versa. Soon, Skin+Surgery Clinics will start Soul+Surgery workshops.
