Treatment

It is an outpatient treatment and relatively simple treatment that takes place under local anesthesia. If you are very nervous, sedative medication may be prescribed. Bruising may also occur around the eyes. Swelling and redness can be effectively controlled after eyelid correction by cooling. We recommend cooling with frozen peas for the first few days (at least 24 hours and as needed). By putting the frozen peas in sandwich bags and tying them together, you can create, as it were, 'cooling goggles'. Don't forget to put a gauze pad between the 'cooling goggles' and your skin
It helps to sleep with an extra pillow the first night, but certainly also the following three days, so that your head is higher. Paracetamol can be taken for mild pain. It is permitted to rinse your eyes with a soft jet of water (in the shower) one day after the procedure. Then pat your eyes thoroughly dry, but do this without rubbing.
Avoid heavy physical exertion, lifting, bending and straining during the first week. You should not cut the ends of the sutures yourself. This happens after 7 to 9 days in our clinic. Then the stitches are removed. We strongly advise not to smoke when the stitches are still in place. Smoking does not benefit recovery; your blood vessels narrow and you are at increased risk of impaired wound healing. Impaired wound healing means that the wounds cannot heal properly and this can result in scars being visible.
Do not expose the scars to sunlight or sunbed radiation for several months (3 months). You will have a check-up with your treating doctor 6-8 weeks after treatment. The final result of an eyelid correction is visible after 9-12 months.

Risks
An eyelid correction before and after for drooping eyelids is not associated with major risks or complications.
