Botox Treatment

At SkinSurgery Clinics, we use botulinum toxin (Botox) to temporarily relax overactive muscles. This softens expression lines, creates a more relaxed appearance, and allows your natural look to come through. The treatment is quick, subtle, and involves little to no downtime.

A safe treatment with natural results, performed by experienced physicians.

What is Botox?

Botox is a muscle relaxant that temporarily prevents a specific muscle from contracting forcefully. This controlled relaxation makes dynamic wrinkles, such as frown lines, forehead lines, or crow’s feet, less visible. Botox can also lift certain areas of the face, such as the eyebrows.

A Botox treatment:

  • Softens lines caused by frowning, smiling, or raising the forehead
  • Prevents these wrinkles from becoming deeper
  • Creates a fresh, relaxed, and more friendly appearance
  • Can also be used for medical indications, such as migraines or teeth grinding

Botox and fillers are often mentioned together, or people think that Botox is also a filler. However, Botox does not add volume; Botox relaxes the muscle.

Botox is a brand name – we work with multiple A-brands

Although the word “Botox” is often used as a general term for botulinum toxin, Botox is actually the brand name of one specific manufacturer. There are several high-quality variants of botulinum toxin type A that serve the same purpose and offer the same effect.

At SkinSurgery Clinics, our physicians work exclusively with clinically proven, safe A-brands. During your consultation, the physician selects the product that best suits your skin, facial expressions, and desired result. This ensures a treatment that is both personal and medically responsible.

Botox treatments

Whether you are dealing with a deep frown line or recurring migraines, a Botox treatment can offer a solution for both cosmetic concerns and various medical conditions. Which wrinkles can be treated with Botox? Each area has its own treatment technique. On the dedicated pages, you will find all information about our Botox treatments:

This is how a Botox treatment works

A Botox treatment at SkinSurgery Clinics is safe, precise, and fully tailored to your facial expressions. Most people experience the treatment as light and comfortable, with results that become visible quickly and last an average of 3 to 4 months. After that, the treatment can be repeated.

Consultation – Analysis of facial expressions, muscles, and skin

During the consultation, the physician discusses your wishes and facial expressions. Medical considerations are also reviewed prior to a first treatment. The physician does not focus solely on the wrinkle itself, but primarily on the cause of the movement. This helps prevent over-treatment and ensures your face remains natural and expressive. During the consultation, the physician takes the time to:

  • Discuss your wishes
  • Analyze the balance of your face and facial expressions
  • Review medical considerations (such as medication use, pregnancy, or previous treatments)
  • Clearly explain which muscles will be treated and what results you can expect

Treatment – Careful injections with an ultra-fine needle

The treatment is quick and straightforward. Small amounts of Botox are injected using a very fine needle. This takes only a few minutes. The physician follows the natural lines of your face and doses with great precision to create a fresh, relaxed result without compromising your facial expressions.

During the treatment:

  • Small amounts of botulinum toxin are injected using a very fine needle
  • The injections take only a few minutes
  • You may feel no more than a light, brief prick
  • CE-certified A-brand botulinum toxins are used (Botox is a brand name; we use multiple safe variants)

Aftercare & Recovery – Continue your day immediately, with a few recommendations

There is virtually no downtime after a Botox treatment. You can resume your daily activities immediately, but a few guidelines help optimize the result:

Within the first 4 hours:

  • Do not lie down or bend forward
  • Avoid pressure on the treated area
  • Do not apply makeup to the treated area

During the first 24 hours:

  • Do not engage in intense exercise
  • Avoid the sauna, tanning beds, or other heat exposure
  • Do not consume alcohol

Do not touch or massage the injection sites. Light facial movements (such as frowning and then relaxing) are allowed and may even support the effectiveness of the treatment.

Result – Subtle relaxation, visible from day 3

Botox is a safe and effective treatment for signs of aging and delivers a beautiful, natural result. The effect of botulinum toxin develops gradually:

  • Day 3–5: first subtle changes
  • Day 10–14: optimal result — muscles are relaxed and the skin appears smoother
  • After 3–4 months: the effect gradually wears off; a repeat treatment can help maintain the result

Many clients experience that regular treatments over the long term lead to:

  • Less deep wrinkles or even the disappearance of wrinkles
  • Softer facial expressions
  • A fresher, more open appearance

Frequently asked questions about Botox

Do you have a question that is not answered? Feel free to contact us Monday to Sunday, between 08:00 and 22:00, at the following number or email.

Can I exercise after a Botox treatment?

Intense exercise is not recommended during the first 24 hours after the treatment.

What is a Botox treatment?

A Botox treatment is a quick and safe way to soften wrinkles and give your face a fresh, relaxed appearance. Small injections temporarily relax the muscle, making lines such as frown lines, crow’s feet, or forehead lines less visible or even disappear. The result looks natural and always suits your appearance. In addition, Botox can also be used effectively to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), for example under the arms, helping you feel dry and confident for longer.

Do I need to consider repeat treatments?

Yes, to maintain the effect, it is recommended to undergo a repeat treatment every 3 to 4 months.

Does Botox make muscles lazy?

Botox temporarily reduces muscle activity, but it doesn't make them permanently "lazy." Over time, muscle activity returns fully. However, regular treatments can provide a long-lasting relaxing effect.

Are there any risks or side effects?

There may be mild side effects such as redness, swelling or bruising, but these usually disappear quickly.

Is a consultation prior to Botox treatment recommended?

Yes, a personal consultation is mandatory and important to discuss wishes and medical background.

What should you take into account after a Botox treatment?

After a Botox treatment, it is important not to lie down for the first 4 hours, not to apply makeup to the injection sites, and not to engage in intensive sports or visit a sauna for the first 24 hours.

When do you see results after the Botox injection?

You can already see improvement from about the fifth day, but the maximum results are usually visible after two weeks.

From what age can you use Botox?

In the Netherlands, cosmetic treatments such as Botox are only permitted for those aged 18 and over. Most people begin between the ages of 25 and 35, depending on their skin type and wrinkle formation.

Can you go on holiday straight after a Botox treatment?

Yes, you can go on holiday after a Botox treatment, but it is advisable to avoid extreme heat (such as saunas or tanning beds), strenuous exercise and flying for the first few days to minimise the risk of side effects.

Is Botox safe?

Yes, Botox treatments are generally safe, provided they are performed by an experienced and qualified physician. Side effects are usually mild, such as some redness, a small bruise, or slight sensitivity. Serious complications are rare, especially if you choose a specialist who uses high-quality products.

How long does a Botox treatment take?

A Botox treatment usually takes no longer than 15 minutes. After a brief consultation to discuss your needs, the injections are administered quickly and virtually painlessly.

Is a Botox treatment painful?

Botox is injected with a very fine needle, so the pricks are usually only felt briefly and lightly. The treatment is generally not painful. Most people only experience a slight prick.

How much does a Botox treatment cost at SkinSurgery Clinics?

The price varies per zone and treatment, with rates starting at around €100 per half zone.

Can Botox dissolve faster with a lot of exercise?

Myth: Exercise doesn't affect how quickly Botox breaks down. The effect gradually diminishes as your body processes the substance on its own, regardless of how much you move or exercise. Intense exercise doesn't directly affect Botox breakdown, but some doctors recommend avoiding physical exertion for the first 24 to 48 hours after treatment. This maintains the optimal effectiveness of Botox and prevents it from transferring.

How long does the effect of a Botox treatment last?

The effect lasts an average of 3 to 4 months. A repeat treatment may then be necessary.

Can Botox be used preventatively?

Yes, Botox can be used preventatively to delay the formation of wrinkles.

Which skin types is Botox suitable for?

Botox is suitable for virtually any skin type because it doesn't work on the skin itself, but on the underlying muscles. However, skin conditions or specific sensitivities may influence the treatment plan.

Can anyone get a Botox treatment?

Not everyone is suitable. Botox is not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or for certain neurological conditions.

What should you do and not do immediately after the Botox treatment?

After the treatment, avoid massaging the treated area, strenuous exercise, and exposure to heat. You can, however, make gentle facial movements; this helps optimize the Botox's effectiveness.
