How long is the recovery after buccal fat removal?

You may be a little swollen for a week after the procedure and your cheeks may feel sore. You won't feel sick otherwise, so you should be able to resume your daily activities fine after a few days. If you experience a lot of swelling, you can take some rest and cool your cheeks with cold packs. All swelling should completely disappear within two to three weeks.

Avoid intensive chewing of solid food and avoid anything too hot or spicy for at least 24 hours to avoid irritating the incisions in your cheeks.

You should not press, push, lift or bend for the first few weeks. Sport is allowed again after 2 weeks.

How is buccal fat removed?

The procedure is performed with a local anaesthetic. The surgeon then makes small incisions on the inside of your cheeks.

The fat is then searched for and removed. This may cause a pulling sensation, but is not painful. Once the fat is removed, the incisions are sutured with soluble sutures.
