During the consultation with the cosmetic doctor, ample time is taken to discuss everything. The cosmetic doctor looks at your skin structure and discusses which areas need extra volume and how many treatments this will require. You can also ask all your questions and express your wishes. The doctor will tell you how the treatment will proceed and what you can expect from the final result. There will be a good explanation of the aftercare, any risks and the final result you can expect. Would you like to undergo the treatment? Then everything will be noted in your file and you will sign the treatment agreement together with the cosmetic doctor. Photos are taken for your file, which can be compared with the final result.

A Sculptra treatment takes place in the clinic in a calm and careful manner. After the skin is cleaned, the Sculptra fluid is introduced under the skin with a thin needle or cannula. The doctor distributes the product in a fan or grid pattern so that it is evenly distributed. This takes an average of 30 to 45 minutes.
The treatment is usually comfortable and immediately afterwards the skin is often slightly swollen or red, which usually subsides quickly. The special feature of Sculptra is that it does not provide immediate volume, but stimulates the skin to produce its own new collagen. This creates a gradually more natural and firm result in the weeks and months after treatment

After treatment, you can go home immediately. Sometimes the skin will still be a little red and small bruises will appear. This will go away by itself and is not serious. You are advised to avoid sports and alcohol for at least the first 24 hours. Do not bring the skin into contact with extreme heat (tanning bed, sauna).
Massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for the first 5 days after your treatment. Do this according to your doctor's advice. Use a moisturiser to reduce friction while massaging.

What is a Sculptra treatment?
Sculptra is a biostimulator containing poly-L-lactic acid, a substance that stimulates the skin to produce its own collagen. Unlike traditional fillers, Sculptra doesn't add volume immediately, but gradually restores the skin from within. After a few weeks to months, you'll notice the skin becoming firmer, fuller, and more elastic. The results are subtle, natural-looking, and often last for several years. When and for how long will you see results from Sculptra?
After your Sculptra treatment, your body needs to do the work of producing more collagen. The first visible changes are visible on average three months after your treatment. After four to six months after your treatment, the results are often optimal.
You will then enjoy your Sculptra treatment for 2-3 years.
What are possible risks of Sculptra treatment?
You may feel bumps under the skin immediately after the treatment. This is often swelling and will disappear within four weeks. If the bump remains noticeable for longer, it may be a small accumulation of the material used (polu-L-lactic acid) that has not been able to distribute evenly. These bumps take longer to disappear completely.
If a Sculptra bump does develop, it can cause discoloration of the skin. There are known cases where these bumps, also known as granulomas, have developed a year after the treatment. They can occur with an incorrect injection technique or when the area has not been massaged sufficiently. However, there are dilution massage techniques that can help to remedy Sculptra side effects if they occur. It is therefore extremely important to have your Sculptra treatment performed by a specialized cosmetic doctor.
Finally, keloid formation and hypertrophic scars can occur after a Sculptra treatment. Sculptra works by stimulating collagen; the biggest cause of keloid formation. If you are sensitive to this, consult your doctor to see if a Sculptra treatment is suitable for you.
How does sculptra treatment work?
A Sculptra treatment consists of a number of injections that are performed by a doctor. Before the treatments, your goals are discussed and the areas that need to be treated are determined. Based on this, the injection sites are marked where the Sculptra is injected. For many people, it is a painless, quick treatment that takes about 30 minutes. After the injection, the area is briefly massaged so that the Sculptra can spread well and any bumps are prevented. You can continue to massage the area yourself for the first week after the treatment. The doctor will show you how.
You can often resume your daily activities immediately after your treatment. It is normal to see extra volume in the areas where the injection was performed. This will disappear within a few days. The same applies to any bruising and swelling. If necessary, you can camouflage these with some make-up.
What is the difference between Radiesse and Sculptra?
Radiesse and Sculptra belong to the biostimulators, a category of injectables that stimulate the skin to produce new collagen. However, there are clear differences:
Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite. This instantly fills areas where volume is lacking and ensures long-term collagen production. You'll see results immediately, which will continue to improve.
Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid. This product doesn't fill the skin immediately, but stimulates the skin to produce collagen over weeks to months. The effect therefore builds gradually, often after several treatments.

What is the aftercare after a Sculptra treatment?
To ensure optimal results and a gradual, long-lasting effect of Sculptra, it is important to follow your doctor’s aftercare instructions. Recommendations for aftercare include the following:
Massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for the first 5 days after your treatment. Do this as directed by your doctor. Use a moisturizer to reduce friction during the massage.
Apply a cold compress wrapped in gauze or cloth (do not apply ice directly to the skin) for the first 24 hours after your treatment. This will help reduce any swelling.
You may wear makeup for a few hours after your Sculptra treatment, provided there are no complications (open wounds or bleeding).
Avoid sun exposure and UV tanning lamps until swelling and redness have subsided.
Avoid saunas/steam baths for 24 hours.
The effect of the Sculptra treatment will be visible after approximately 6 weeks.
For the best results, 2 or more (repeat) treatments are recommended. The doctor will discuss with you how many treatments you may need for your desired result. The effect of Sculptra remains visible for an average of 2 years. However, this depends on age, lifestyle and each person's personal collagen production.
