Eyelid correction – Milan technique
An eyelid correction with the Milan technique can be performed for both medical and cosmetic reasons. During the procedure, excess skin is removed and, if necessary, muscle and fatty tissue is corrected. This reduces pressure on the eyelids and forehead, while also providing a fresh, open gaze and a rested appearance.
In this blog we discuss the different eyelid correction techniques, including the Milan technique. We tell you what to look for before and after the procedure, how the recovery is going and what results you can expect.
Regular eyelid correction or the Milan technique
At a regular eyelid surgery various techniques are used, depending on the eye's anatomy and the patient's wishes. At SkinSurgery, we take a holistic approach and choose the technique that best suits your face. One of the most popular methods, after the conventional technique, is the Milan technique, also known as the Milanese technique.
This advanced method corrects a larger, elliptical portion of the upper eyelid. By creating a "wing" on the side of the eyelid, more excess skin is removed, resulting in a more open and youthful appearance. The scar will be slightly more visible during the initial recovery phase, but with careful adherence to the correct aftercare protocol, it will fade subtly, making the scar barely noticeable.

Post-procedure advice
For a smooth recovery, it is essential to give your body enough rest so that you can recover optimally. Take at least one week off and avoid physical exertion such as bending, heavy lifting, and household chores. Your eyes may be swollen and blue in the first few days after the procedure, which is completely normal. Regular cooling and sufficient rest will speed up the recovery process, allowing you to enjoy your radiant look sooner!
Avoid makeup and contact lenses for at least two weeks to prevent infections and unnecessary strain on the wound. After about a week, you can gradually resume your daily activities, depending on the intensity. The final result is clearly visible after a few weeks, but the scar needs 6 to 12 months to heal completely.
