Enjoy your botox for longer? Here's what you can do!
All good things come to an end... So too (unfortunately) do the effects of your botox treatment. But, not to worry: with these tips, you can get the most out of your botox and stay wrinkle- or symptom-free for longer.
1. Regular and consistent prodding
The best way to prolong the effects of your Botox treatment is to have it done regularly initially. By consistently relaxing the muscles, they will become weaker over time. As a result, the results of the Botox last longer and you will not need to repeat the treatment as often in the long run. The advice is to start with every 3 to 4 months. We see many clients in our clinic who, over time, only schedule a botox treatment every 6 months.
2. Keeps the muscles moving
An experienced artisan will tell you to move the muscles pricked with botox immediately after treatment. Research shows that, by moving the muscles, the botox can distribute itself well evenly and helps the botox last longer.
3. Do not rub
After your botox treatment, keep your hands out of your face. And especially from the area treated with botox. While it is good to keep moving your muscle after treatment, it is not advisable to massage, rub or push the area. This can actually cause the botox to spread to other areas of the face. Also, do not use products such as toners, face masks or harsh scrubs for the first 24-48 hours. Furthermore, be careful when cleaning your face and with serums or creams.
4. Limit sun exposure
This tip does not only apply to your botox treatment; always limit sun exposure and always use good sun protection. Although direct UV radiation does not seem to have any effect on the botox treatment itself, sun exposure does increase skin damage and wrinkles. The more wrinkles, the more and more often you will have to repeat your botox treatment to achieve the same effects.
5. Choose the right specialist
Botox is a relatively safe and perhaps even simple treatment. Yet it can do more harm than good in the hands of a non-experienced specialist. There are many clinics and healthcare professionals offering botox treatments these days. But not all providers are experienced or qualified to perform this treatment. Therefore, read up carefully and make sure you are always helped by an experienced, certified cosmetic doctor. They will know exactly how to inject the Botox in the right dosage and in the right place accurately to achieve maximum effect.
