Labia correction: the 8 most honest questions
This publication about the most frequently asked questions about labiaplasty was written by Dr. Amra – KNMG-certified cosmetic doctor and specialist in labia corrections at Skin Surgery Clinics.
There are certain topics that women still talk about in whispers. The inner labia, for example. You know it's not weird, but still... you don't just discuss it with your friends or your partner. That's why I thought: let's just start the conversation. Here. Open and honest.
Every day, I receive questions about labia correction, some very practical, others deeply personal. And yes, occasionally a rather unusual one.
1. Can I take the tissue home with me after the operation?
The most remarkable one so far: “Can I take the tissue home with me after the operation?”
The answer: yes, you can. It's your tissue. But more important than these kinds of exceptions are the questions that many women don't dare to ask. Today, I'll answer them just as I would in my office.
2. Is it strange that I want to have labiaplasty?
No, not at all. More than half of women have inner labia that protrude slightly. Yet many women think this is “not normal” because the media and pornography often portray an unnatural image. This image causes insecurity and shame. But the truth is: there is no such thing as a “perfect” vagina. What matters is how you feel. And if the tissue bothers you, causes pain during sports or intimacy, or hinders your self-confidence, then it is very understandable that you would consider a correction.
At SkinSurgery, we try to break that taboo by honest experiences from women who have taken this step. Because talking helps. That's why we answer the 8 most honest questions about labia correction.
3. Is it superficial to want this?
On the contrary. The desire for labiaplasty rarely stems from vanity. Many women experience real discomfort: chafing, irritation, difficulty keeping clean, or tension during intimacy. One patient recently said:
“I was afraid someone would smell or see something. I carried wipes in my pocket all day long.”
It's not about appearance. It's about dignity, hygiene, and freedom in your body.
4. Am I less of a woman if I have this done?
I hear that a lot, but the opposite is true. Most women actually feel more feminine—freer, more confident, and relaxed in their bodies. They dare to go to the sauna with friends again, wear tighter clothes without shame, and feel lighter.
As one of my patients said: “I finally feel like myself again. I don't have to hide anything anymore.”
5. What really changes after labiaplasty?
More than you think. Some women don't even dare to look in the mirror during their first consultation. And at the final check-up, they're smiling from ear to ear. That transformation isn't just physical. It's emotional too. They feel freer in relationships, more comfortable with their bodies, and dare to enjoy their sensuality again without shame.
6. What does the treatment involve?
A labia correction is a minor, refined procedure that we perform under local anesthesia. It takes 45 to 60 minutes on average. We always take plenty of time for the consultation: I examine the anatomy, the patient's wishes, and the natural proportions. Sometimes I honestly tell patients that surgery is not necessary, because not everyone benefits from it.
The technique I use is extremely precise. I remove the excess tissue with a fine electric blade and trim the edges with surgical precision down to half a millimeter.
This creates a beautiful natural result, without harsh lines or streaks.
7. Does treatment hurt, and how long does recovery take?
Most women find the recovery process mild. There may be some swelling or sensitivity, but this usually disappears within a few days. The stitches dissolve on their own and you can often return to work after one to two weeks. It is best to wait 4–6 weeks before resuming sports, cycling, and sex, depending on the healing process. We will guide you through this step by step.
8. How do I know if I have chosen the right doctor?
Always choose a doctor who specializes in female intimate surgery and who makes you feel safe. Pay attention to experience, membership of the NVCG, and the space that a doctor takes to be honest even when surgery is not necessary. At SkinSurgery, we work exclusively with female doctors and assistants. Everything is discreet, gentle, and safely arranged.
