In some cases, heavy eyelids can even start to obstruct your vision. So there are plenty of cosmetic as well as medical reasons to do something about drooping eyelids.
What to do about droopy eyelids?
There are a number of things you can do about drooping eyelids, some more permanent than others. Skin + Surgery differentiates between non-surgical treatment options and surgical options in this blog. Keep in mind that a non-surgical treatment option will have less effect than a surgical treatment option.
What to do: non-surgical treatment options
1. Apply slices of cucumber
Putting cucumbers on the eyes is a classic way to refresh the area around the eyes. This is because cucumbers contain ascorbic acid and caffeic acid. These substances help reduce droopy eyelids as they reduce inflammation and firm the skin naturally. Cucumber slices help your skin look healthier, smoother and more radiant than before. Place two slices of chilled cucumber over your eyes. Leave the cucumbers on your eyes for 20 minutes before removing them. Then wash your face with cold water.
2. Use chamomile tea bags
This is actually a follow-up to the cucumber tip. Chamomile is naturally anti-inflammatory, so it is great for droopy eyelids and, like cucumber, helps strengthen the skin. To reduce puffy and droopy eyelids, apply chamomile tea bags to your eyelids. First, soak two tea bags in hot water. Then chill the bags in the fridge for 15 to 30 minutes. Once cooled, place the tea bags over your eyes for 30 minutes. Remove the tea bags and close your eyes (without the bags on) for another 25 minutes. The anti-inflammatory properties of the tea reduce swelling and puffiness and strengthen the skin around your eyes.
3. 'Train' your eyelids
You can exercise almost anything, including your droopy eyelids! There are no specific exercises that have actually been scientifically proven to work. That said, it is definitely worth a try. Especially since you do exercise the muscles around the eyes. So it can't hurt to give it a try. Exercises you can try include:

4. A brow lift
Another way to do something about drooping eyelids is to undergo a brow lift. For this, we use a wrinkle relaxer for with a muscle relaxing effect. By poking at the right areas of the forehead and above the eyebrows, we can influence the action of certain muscles. This creates a lifting effect, causing your eyebrows to lift slightly. The result is a fresh, opened look. In fact, sometimes you are not bothered by your drooping eyelids, but more by the effect of the drooping eyebrows. You will find that droopy eyelids appear a lot less droopy after a brow lift. Since Btx (botulinum toxin) is biodegradable, you can repeat this treatment after about 3 to 4 months.
5. An eyelid correction
An eyelid correction is the most common treatment in the Netherlands for good reason. With an eyelid correction, you are assured of getting rid of your drooping eyelids for a long time. During an eyelid correction, excess skin and fat is removed from the upper and/or lower eyelids. When you have the treatment done at an A clinic, such as Skin + Surgery, you will get beautiful results, with minimal risk of complications. Some prefer eyelid surgery at too great a price, over the quality of the clinic or surgeon. Often, after that, the price is the only nice thing about eyelid surgery... Don't take risks with your face!
